About us

Church on the Rock is a non-denominational evangelical church that meet together in Hungerford, Berkshire.

We are a group of Bible-believing Christians of all ages and from many different walks of life. We are ordinary local people who love God and believe that Jesus transforms lives. We consider the Bible to be very important and relevant for today. We help and encourage one another in the Christian life, and want to share the good news about Jesus Christ with our neighbours and friends.

Established in 1995 as Maranatha Church, we originally met at Hungerford Town Hall, where our Cafe on the Rock was held for 20 years. We moved back into the heart of Hungerford centre in 2012, currently meeting at The Croft Hall on Sunday mornings. We also hold several group meetings and activities at various locations across the surrounding area during the week.

We welcome people from all sorts of church backgrounds - and from none. Whether young or old, living in the area or visiting, Christian or just wanting to find out more, everyone is welcome at Church on the Rock.

What we believe

The Bible is the inspired word of God and the source of doctrine. There is one God, who is Father, Son and Holy Spirit. Man was made in the image of God, but has been separated from Him by sin.  Jesus Christ, God’s Son, was born of a virgin, lived as a man, and died to take the full penalty for our sin. Salvation is found only through Jesus. Jesus rose from the dead, was taken up to heaven and reigns with the Father.  The Holy Spirit is God’s presence on earth and is available to all believers. We enter God’s kingdom by His grace through our repentance from sins, faith in Jesus, baptism in water and receiving the Holy Spirit. Christ is the Head of the Church, the universal body of believers, who share the Lord’s Supper together in remembrance of Him. Jesus Christ will return in glory and will judge all who have lived.
